Lap Steel Guitar – Barney Kessel

So Much can be learnt from the masters of bebop, harmony and melody. Barney is my favourite player on guitar as his style swings and always suits the feel. So just decided to have a look at some approaches used on Back Home in Indiana. His voicings always sound percussive and melodic at the same time.

He opened my eyes to what wide voicings were staring at me for a while but never thought of it like that. Approaching voicings with 5th as melody notes and implying the diminished chord as a sub heavily and ending with altering a boring 7th chord and leading to a 7#9 into a Maj7. So much to learn from him. Excited.
